Will Deezer Remove Your AI Music? The New 6-Month Rule Explained
Deezer’s new rule targets fully AI-generated tracks linked to fraud or left unplayed for six months. Here is what independent artists should know before uploading AI-assisted music.
More than half of all new music delivered to Deezer can now be fully AI-generated on peak days.
That sounds dramatic because it is dramatic. In June 2026, Deezer received approximately 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day. At peak level, those tracks represented more than 50% of all new music uploads to the platform.
The company has now announced another step in its response: fully AI-generated tracks connected to streaming fraud will be removed, along with generative AI tracks that have not received a single stream for at least six months.
So, will Deezer delete your AI-assisted song?
Not necessarily.
The important distinction is between a track created entirely by a generative music system and a human-made production that uses AI somewhere in the process. The internet will probably flatten both into the same alarming headline. The actual policy is more specific.
Here is what independent artists need to know.
What Did Deezer Announce in July 2026?
On July 21, 2026, Deezer reported that fully AI-generated music had exceeded 50% of daily new uploads at peak level.
The platform says it will now systematically remove:
- AI-generated tracks associated with fraudulent streaming activity;
- generative AI tracks that have received no streams for six months or longer.
This is not a general ban on AI-assisted music. Deezer is targeting a growing catalogue of completely generated tracks that attract no real listeners or appear to exist mainly for streaming manipulation.
The sheer upload volume explains why the platform is acting. If around 90,000 synthetic tracks arrive every day, storing and processing millions of tracks that nobody listens to becomes less like supporting independent creativity and more like operating a very expensive digital landfill.
The 50% AI Upload Milestone
The number is striking, but it needs context.
AI-generated tracks may account for more than half of new deliveries on peak days, yet Deezer says they generate only around 1–3% of total listening activity.
In other words, AI systems can produce enormous quantities of music, but quantity does not automatically produce an audience.
That gap between uploads and actual listening is the heart of the issue. The platform is not being flooded by an equal number of successful new AI artists. It is being flooded by files.
Fraudulent Streams and the Six-Month Rule
Deezer reports that up to 85% of streams connected to fully AI-generated tracks in 2025 were identified as fraudulent.
Those fraudulent streams were excluded from royalty calculations. Now Deezer intends to go further by removing AI tracks used for streaming fraud altogether.
The second part of the announcement concerns inactivity. A generative AI track may be removed if it has not received a stream for at least six months.
This does not mean that every AI track disappears six months after release. It means a track that remains completely unplayed for that period can be removed.
One listener would therefore appear to make a rather important difference, although artists should not treat that as an invitation to manufacture activity. Artificial streams remain a much faster route to removal than honest obscurity.
Does the Policy Apply to AI-Assisted Music?
Based on Deezer’s announcement, the new removal policy is aimed at fully AI-generated music.
That is not automatically the same as music made with AI assistance.
A human artist might use AI for:
- separating stems from an old stereo mix;
- cleaning background noise;
- generating an initial arrangement;
- creating a temporary guide vocal;
- suggesting lyrics or chord variations;
- repairing damaged audio;
- extending or replacing a small section;
- assisting with mixing or mastering.
These uses involve very different levels of human contribution. Calling all of them “AI-generated music” would be about as useful as calling every recording made with Auto-Tune a computer-generated vocal performance.
The real question is not simply whether AI was used. It is how much of the final recording was generated and what original human work exists behind it.
Fully Generated vs AI-Assisted
A fully generated track may begin with a prompt and arrive as a nearly finished stereo recording. The user may choose a version, make minor edits and upload the result.
An AI-assisted production normally involves more substantial human authorship or production work. The artist may write the song, record vocals, alter the arrangement, replace instruments, edit individual parts and rebuild the mix.
There is no universal percentage that magically turns one category into the other. Platforms, distributors and rights organisations may also define these terms differently.
Still, there is an obvious practical difference between:
“Generate a complete dark pop song about a broken relationship.”
and:
“Here is my song, vocal performance and arrangement. Help me separate the instruments so I can rebuild the mix.”
Both use AI. They are not the same creative process.
What Deezer’s Detector Is Designed to Identify
Deezer says its detector looks for technical artifacts left by generative music systems. These patterns may be difficult for a listener to hear but identifiable through software analysis.
According to the company, the system can detect outputs from major generative platforms such as Suno and Udio. Deezer reports an accuracy of 99.8%, with fewer than one false positive per 10,000 genuinely human-made tracks.
Those are Deezer’s own published figures, so they should be understood as company-reported performance rather than an independent guarantee.
The broader lesson remains important: changing the EQ, adding saturation or mastering a generated track louder does not necessarily remove the underlying statistical signatures of the generation process.
A limiter is many things. Witness protection is not one of them.
Will AI Music Still Appear in Recommendations?
Fully AI-generated tracks detected by Deezer are already excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists.
That may be more important to an artist than the six-month removal rule.
A track can technically remain available while receiving very little exposure because it is not entering the platform’s normal discovery systems. If it receives no direct plays either, the new inactivity rule may later apply.
This creates a difficult cycle:
- The track is detected as fully AI-generated.
- It is excluded from recommendations.
- It receives little or no organic discovery.
- It remains unplayed for six months.
- It becomes eligible for removal.
For artists uploading fully generated music, the problem is therefore not only whether the track stays online. The bigger problem is whether it has any realistic route towards being heard.
What Independent Artists Should Do Before Distribution
There is no single export setting that guarantees a track will avoid an AI label. Anyone promising that probably owns either a magic crystal or an invoice template.
A safer approach is to build a legitimate release around real creative work.
Keep Project Files and Creation Records
Preserve evidence of how the music was made:
- DAW project files;
- original vocal and instrument recordings;
- MIDI arrangements;
- lyric drafts;
- generated source files;
- prompts and generation dates;
- stems before and after editing;
- mix revisions;
- correspondence with collaborators.
These records may help if a distributor asks about the origin of the recording or if ownership is later disputed.
They also make future remixes, remasters and alternate versions much easier. Good archiving is boring right up until the day it saves the release.
Avoid Mass-Upload Behaviour
Uploading dozens or hundreds of similar tracks is likely to resemble the behaviour platforms are trying to control.
Release fewer tracks and put more work into each one:
- refine the arrangement;
- replace weak generated sections;
- correct awkward lyrics;
- rebuild damaged or unstable vocals;
- create proper artwork and metadata;
- prepare an actual release campaign.
A catalogue with an artistic identity looks very different from a folder emptied directly into a distributor.
Build Real Listener Activity
The six-month rule makes genuine audience development even more important.
That does not mean buying streams. It means giving real people a reason and a route to hear the song:
- share it with an existing audience;
- pitch it to relevant independent curators;
- create honest social media content;
- release a video or visualiser;
- send it to DJs, blogs or radio shows that fit the style;
- connect the release to a recognisable artist project.
One hundred real listeners are worth more than ten thousand suspicious ones. The first group might return. The second group might get the track removed.
Check the Final Master for Generative Artifacts
A proper technical review can identify audible problems commonly found in AI-generated or AI-separated audio:
- watery or unstable vocals;
- smeared cymbals;
- strange stereo movement;
- inconsistent ambience;
- sudden spectral changes;
- artificial transients;
- phase problems;
- low-frequency instability;
- section boundaries that sound pasted together;
- background elements that appear and disappear.
Repairing these problems can make the release sound more professional. It can reduce listener fatigue and prevent obvious quality failures.
What it cannot do is retroactively change how the original recording was created.
Can Mixing or Remastering Prevent an AI Label?
Not reliably.
Mixing and remastering can significantly improve an AI-assisted track. Stems can be rebalanced, harshness reduced, vocals controlled, dynamics restored and weak transitions rebuilt.
But professional processing should not be sold as a guaranteed way to defeat AI detection.
If a track is fully generated, adding analogue saturation, replacing the kick and running the master through an expensive chain does not necessarily make it human-made. It makes it a better-processed generated track.
The more meaningful transformation happens when a producer contributes actual creative decisions:
- rewriting sections;
- recording new performances;
- changing the composition;
- replacing generated instruments;
- reconstructing the arrangement;
- editing the timing and phrasing;
- building a new mix from workable stems.
Even then, no engineer can honestly guarantee how a private platform detector will classify the final audio.
At Unsaid Records, the practical goal is not to disguise the origin of a track. It is to turn an unfinished or unstable production into the strongest legitimate release it can become.
What If Your Track Is Incorrectly Flagged?
False positives may be rare, but “rare” is not the same as impossible.
If a human-made recording is labelled as AI-generated:
- Do not immediately delete and re-upload the release.
- Save screenshots and any messages from the platform or distributor.
- Collect the original session files, recordings and dated exports.
- Ask the distributor which classification or policy triggered the action.
- Request a review through the available support or appeal process.
- Provide concise evidence of the production process.
Avoid emotional essays about the death of art. Support teams need verifiable information, not a manifesto written at 3:17 in the morning.
This is another reason to preserve project history before a problem occurs.
The Honest Conclusion: Release Less, Finish Better
Deezer’s announcement does not mean that all AI-assisted music is being banned.
It does show where streaming platforms are heading.
They are becoming less willing to absorb unlimited quantities of fully generated music, especially when those tracks receive no genuine engagement or are connected to artificial streaming.
For independent artists, the answer is not panic. It is authorship, quality control and restraint.
Use AI when it genuinely helps. Keep evidence of your work. Fix the parts that sound unfinished. Build a recognisable artist identity. Release music because it deserves to exist, not simply because a machine can generate another version in thirty seconds.
The platforms already have enough files.
What they still need is music that somebody cares about.
