FILES

File Preparation Guidelines

Cleaner files make better decisions, better quotes and better results.

General

  • Send WAV or AIFF where possible
  • Use 24-bit or 32-bit export if available
  • Use 44.1 kHz sample rate or higher
  • Keep all stems exported from the same start point
  • Include a rough mix for reference
  • Include reference tracks if you have them
  • Include BPM and key if known
  • Do not normalize files unnecessarily
  • Do not clip exports
  • Label files clearly

For Mixing

  • Send all important tracks, stems or multitracks
  • Export tracks from the same start point
  • Remove unnecessary plugins only if they are not part of the sound
  • Keep creative effects if they define the song
  • Include a rough mix so I know your intended direction
  • Label folders and files clearly

For Mastering

  • Send the final stereo premaster
  • WAV or AIFF only — no MP3 as the main premaster file
  • Use 24-bit or 32-bit export if available
  • Keep the project sample rate: 44.1 kHz or higher
  • Do not upsample on export
  • Leave safe headroom — around -6 dB peak is enough
  • Do not use heavy compression, limiting or clipping on the master bus
  • Keep gentle master bus colour only if it is part of the sound
  • Send reference tracks if relevant

For Stem Mastering

  • Send grouped stems such as drums, bass, vocals, music and FX
  • Export all stems from the same start point
  • Make sure the stems sum close to the rough mix
  • Include the stereo rough mix as reference
  • Avoid sending too many tiny individual tracks
  • Label each stem clearly

For AI Stems Remastering

  • Send the original AI render
  • Send separated stems if available
  • Send any human edits, DAW exports or rebuilt parts if available
  • Include notes about what bothers you
  • Mention the AI tool used if relevant
  • Tell me what you want improved: vocals, low end, stereo image, cuts, artifacts or overall finish

For Release Pre-Flight QC

  • Send the final WAV
  • Send artwork if you want artwork checks
  • Send metadata if you want metadata notes
  • Include target distributor if known
  • Include any delivery requirements if you have them
  • Mention if the track is AI-assisted or AI-generated
